Hike some of Iceland’s finest routes

This summer, we’ll be exploring some of Iceland’s best peaks and passes. The views here are absolutely spectacular, and as this corner of the country is still visited far less than the main trails in the south, it’s likely we won’t see another soul on our travels. We may also end up in places so rarely visited, the land has reclaimed the trail – if you’re looking for a true sense of adventure, you’ll find it here.

All of our hiking trips will begin at 10.00 at the Sóti Summits office on Aðalgata in Siglufjörður, where we’ll have a short briefing to ensure everybody is familiar with the route and appropriately kitted out. After heading to the start point, you can simply relax and enjoy the hike as your knowledgeable guide takes care of all the navigation, and shares interesting facts and stories about the trail, plant life and local area.

Exact routes will vary based on weather and ground conditions. If you are looking for a specific trail or have particular requirements, we’re happy to organise custom hikes for you and your group! Simply drop us an email on info@sotisummits.is or get in touch using our contact form.

Example Routes

Reykjaheiði

This hike starts just below the delightful waterfall Reykjafoss, we might dip a toe in a small geothermal pool before beginning the climb up to the pass in earnest. As our altitude increases, the vegetation decreases, leaving only the wild, bold lines of the mountains, before we start to descend through a breathtakingly beautiful valley towards our finish point at Dalvík.

It should be noted that this route involves water crossings – bring your sandals or brave going barefoot!

Distance: 15km

Max height: 910m

Difficulty rating: 4/5

Siglufjarðarskarð

We’ll begin this hike by climbing the old road above the ski resort to the scenic Siglufjarðarskarð pass, offering beautiful views down into Fljótin on one side, and Siglufjörður on the other. We’ll then break off onto the old postal route, which winds pleasantly down towards the sea and our destination – the old farm at Hraun.

Distance: 11km

Max height: 620m

Difficulty rating: 2/5

Dalaleið

A classic trail departing from Siglufjörður. The initial climb is somewhat steep, and absolutely worth the sense of disappearing into the mountains. We cross the Dalaskarð pass beneath soaring peaks, before stretching back down the Mánadalur valley towards the ocean.

Distance: 6km

Max height: 520m

Difficulty rating: 3/5
